“Preparing people to live with,
through, and beyond challenges”
Shelton Bady, CEO
The Shelton Bady Foundation was founded for the purpose of assisting
those in our society who are in need, especially the children and families
who are living in poverty, helplessness, or those who are experiencing
hopelessness, as well as individuals who are dealing with the challenge
of HIV or AIDS.
The Shelton Bady Foundation will concentrate on seeding innovative programs
and service initiatives, which will seek new solutions for addressing
societal needs. With obesity reaching epidemic proportion, and with Houston
ranked very high on the obesity scale, there is a need to get our children
and adults in programs that promote physical fitness. Affordable fitness
programs are greatly needed as a proactive measure against obesity and
disease.
The Foundation will address the concerns of family and community, as well
as worldwide humanitarian concerns. With the word “dysfunctional”
a very familiar part of today’s vernacular, it is also a concern
of the Foundation to ensure fathers take their rightful place within the
family unit. With the development and implementation of a strong adult
male mentoring program, today’s men can be directed to rule themselves,
so they can positively affect their families and the world.
Our goal is to be instrumental in strengthening the family unit. A strong
family is the nucleus by which all things that affect our economic growth
system are launched. According to the U.S. Census Bureau 2003, Texas has
the lowest percentage of high school graduates in the nation for the second
straight year in a row. Educational attainment is the scale used for predicting
income. This could ultimately harm Texas’ economy as less educated
people enter the work force making Texas less competitive and having a
negative affect on the state’s demographic figures.
Currently we are involved in providing solutions for children in Kenya
who have been adversely affected by the AIDS epidemic. The Shelton Bady
Foundation (through The Preparation Ministries) has contributed to the
efforts towards providing safe havens for homeless, orphaned, and at-risk
children in Kenya. These children are greatly disadvantaged due to dysfunctional
families, hunger, homelessness due to parents dying of AIDS, and lack
of access to the basics that children need in life. The streets of Kenya
are full of children ranging from newborn to young adult. AIDS is a recurring
cycle. Children whose parents died of AIDS are repeating the cycle by
becoming sexually active very young and becoming infected as young adults.
The Shelton Bady Foundation’s goal is intervention through various
programs to house, feed and educate homeless children, as well as educate
adults in the area of parenting, family counseling, and ultimately reconciling
children with their families or provide foster care and adoption for children
of deceased parents.
Greenspoint has experienced undeniable improvement due to the cooperation
of business, civic and religious leaders. However, the economic limitations
have impaired transformation. Some of the missing support elements are
community centers, family-oriented programs, and child watch and development
programs.
The Shelton Bady Foundation will concentrate on seeding innovative programs
and service initiatives, which will seek new solutions for addressing
societal needs.
